    • Aids and AdaptationsAids and adaptations are an essential part of living well with chronic illness and disability. It can be overwhelming to know which aids to choose or which adaptations might be most useful. Even more so for conditions which fluctuate or go through phases of activity and remission. By sharing honest reviews and tips, we hope to make choosing aids and adaptations easier; whether it’s for personal use at home or when requesting accommodations in public spaces.
    • BalanceThe Balance section of the blog is about finding our equilibrium.  Our health is made up of physical and mental wellbeing, which draws from a variety of components e.g. nutrition, habits, sleep quality, fulfilment and self expression, relationships, social and spiritual life, work (if we’re able to) and others. Many of these key foundation components have their own sections on the blog. Balance is vital because it’s only when we are in tune with each aspect of our health that we can fully experience wellness. In this section, you’ll find advice, reviews, recommendations and insights for helping to find balance, especially between physical and mental health. It also contains some of the more ‘fun’ posts. Working to improve our health can sometimes be hard work, so it’s important to also make time for enjoyment!

Is your illness or disability part of your identity? This is a tricky topic and there are no right or wrong answers.
When life changing illness comes along it can really shake up our sense of identity, especially if it means giving up a job or other activities which we considered part of who we are.
For those severely affected it can feel all consuming and often as though our illness is all we are and everything we do or don’t do revolves around that. Some people find new identities, some don’t, often people’s feelings or views on this change over time. This is all valid.
Recently I’ve been heading towards “I am not my illness” and trying to separate it from my identity. This isn’t easy but by doing it I’ve made space to explore other things I could be (in my severely limited capacity) and am starting to rediscover “Sabina when sick”, rather than “Sabina the sick”… I hope I’ve explained that clearly 😆
The excellent fatigue book from Lydia Rolley (out now from @hhealthbooks) is packed with tips to help with fatigue and this one was a paradigm shift for me. When I stopped taking about “my symptoms” as though they were a part of who I am, and began to think of them as, and call them “the symptoms” they became a visitor, something from outside of me which stays temporarily. Not a fixed and permanent part of me. It is *hugely liberating* 💖I’m astounded by what a huge difference a tiny language tweak can make. For those who’d like to, I suggest observing your own dialogue and relationship with your illness and disability. Are there positive changes you can try out and see if they help?
And I hugely recommend #TheFatigueBook to anyone with an energy limiting chronic illness e.g. ME/CFS, Long Covid, MS, Fibromyalgia, EDS, Lupus and others.

💗 Choose Love 💗 Many of us have fears surr 💗 Choose Love 💗
Many of us have fears surrounding scarcity; Are we enough? Do we do enough? Do we have enough?
Not surprising given that society often bombards us with messages that we need to be more, do more, have more.
@beckyhallartofenough tackles this in her book #TheArtOfEnough which challenges this mindset and guides the reader to achieve balance in their life.
In part 1 Hall talks about the scarcity mindset and how liberating self acceptance can be. If we switch our mindset to one of “enough” we can re-set our fear to love.
The Art of Enough takes practice and I’m so excited to read the rest of this great book and dive in and try out the practical exercises.
Full review of The Art of Enough by Becky Hall will be up on the blog soon… stay tuned.
Sending love to you all 💕

Every day is filled with difficult choices and sac Every day is filled with difficult choices and sacrifices when you live with an energy limiting chronic illness.
Even completing daily care needs can be hugely challenging, especially when something as “simple” as a shower requires days of recovery time.
The level of someone’s symptoms can fluctuate from one day to the next (and even from one hour to the next) so making plans is often unrealistic, or subject to last minute cancellation.
The only way to manage is to very gently, very carefully pace our activities and successfully *guess* how much energy something will cost us. Guessed wrong? Didn’t account for an unexpected hiccup? Go straight to jail (and there’s no rolling a double or whatever to get out).
As the number of people suffering with Long Covid and other post viral complications increases, their voices are being added to those of people with ME/CFS in calling for better funding for research so that we might actually find useful treatment, one that’s more effective than *guessing*.

Moving our bodies is vital to our wellbeing, but i Moving our bodies is vital to our wellbeing, but it you have an energy limiting chronic illness or disability you may not be able to exercise.
There are alternatives, which are low energy but still help keep joints flexible and muscle and tendons strong. You might need to experiment a bit to find the types of movement you find best for you. My favourites are seated tai chi and bed-based yoga (lots of lying down poses).

If you drive, you’ll know it’s important to look in the direction of where you’re headed; it keeps you on track and enables you to anticipate hazards. The same is true of life’s journey; mindfully stay in the present and look to the future with intention, don’t attempt to travel forwards whilst gazing backwards or you’ll end up going the wrong way! 🚙
I’ve spotted the phrase on this slide a few times this month, most recently on @cfssuperhero feed, if you’ve not seen his amazing cartoons yet go check them out: they’re so on point spoonies 👌🏻

But also hooray to those who are unable to compete in society’s race, or choose not to. Hooray to you for getting through another year and still being here after all you’ve been through.
Hooray for those whose highlight is that they survived, no one will ever know the level of suffering you went through or the depths of courage you needed. I’m here applauding you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

If you struggle with reading due to fatigue or bra If you struggle with reading due to fatigue or brain fog, you may find it helps to change format and use audiobooks. Some people find it easier to have the information or story read to them so they just listen instead of having to read it themselves.
Different things work for different people, so if you find it difficult to process visually but find you can process sound with more ease, maybe give an audiobook a whirl.
